I believe the essential component of counselling is rapport and empathy so that you feel truly heard. I feel it is essential that I understand things from your point of view. It is not my role to dictate or judge you. I see my role as empowering you to see your full potential and working out different strategies.

I am an accredited member of BACP. I work from an integrative model of counselling focusing on Attachment Theory, Person Centred Therapy and Compassionate Mind Therapy. I have had over 30 years’ experience as a private counsellor and 10 years in Primary Health care. I also take referrals from employer assisted programmes (EAP) and lecture in counselling from introduction to diploma level.

I was in medical practice as a GP for over thirty years, and have now retired to focus on this specialised practice. I have post-graduate training in paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, family planning, and sexual health.

Research finds a high proportion of people never have their illness explained even after a full investigation, and my own experience as a GP confirmed this. It is clear that there needs to be a different approach that reaches beyond medication or surgery.

I have developed a different approach, called Empathometrics. It was featured in The Times and forms part of a Channel 4 documentary. I teach hypnosis practice to doctors and other clinicians for the British Society of Academic and Clinical Hypnosis (BSCAH).
